Superman: Legacy writer-director James Gunn has cast two more classic DC Comics characters for the movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Righteous Gemstones star Skyler Gisondo will join the movie as the Daily Planet's photographer Jimmy Olsen.

Known in the comics as 'Superman's Pal', Jimmy is often depicted as a young member of the newspaper staff who idolises Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

The character first appeared in Action Comics #6 in 1938, and has previously been played on the big screen by Marc McClure in 1978's Superman: The Movie and Michael Cassidy in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Another casting has seen Portuguese model and actress Sara Sampaio (Crisis) joining Superman: Legacy as the villain Eve Teschmacher.

Originally created for the 1978 Superman film as Lex Luthor's sidekick, Ms Teschmacher was eventually adapted into the comics as well as Smallville and the Arrowverse on TV.

The news of Ms Teschmacher's inclusion in Superman: Legacy comes just one day after it was revealed that Nicholas Hoult would be playing the villain's boss Lex Luthor.

David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan signed on to play Superman and Lois Lane before the recent actor and writers' strikes, meaning the movie won't face the same delays as other superhero projects.

"Thanks to the efforts of our talented crew, who never lost faith during the longest strikes in Hollywood history, and who never let their foot off the pedal, continuing to barrel forward, creating the most amazing character and set designs I've seen in my entire career, #SupermanLegacy will be making the originally planned release date of July 11, 2025," Gunn recently announced.

The next Superman film is also set to feature The Suicide Squad's Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Corps member Guy Gardner, Twilight star Edi Gathegi as Mr Terrific and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, alongside María Gabriela de Faría playing The Engineer from the upcoming DC movie The Authority.

Superman: Legacy premieres in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
