James Gunn's upcoming DC blockbuster Superman: Legacy will see María Gabriela De Faría join the cast as the film's villain.

The Deadly Class actor will appear in the upcoming superhero flick as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer, part of the title's team of villains, reports Deadline.

Welcoming María to the Worlds of DC, director James Gunn posted to Instagram: "Welcome to the DCU @thefaria, who is not only a wonderful actor, but she laughs in person even more than she does in her Instagram photos!'

In the DC comic book series, Angela is the second villain to use the title of Engineer following the original member of The Chambers. Angela, who is a member of the Authority, has a liquid body due to nanites in her bloodstream and can create solid objects.

María is best known for starring in Syfy drama thriller Deadly Class as Maria Salazar, as well as roles in The Exorcism of God and The Moodys.

She will join David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the new Superman and Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy, which creators insist is not an origin story.

Fans were offered an update on the film from James following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strikes which saw thousands of actors engaged in a labour dispute with the AMPTP. The DC Studios boss announced that the strikes, which have delayed numerous projects, will not delay Superman: Legacy's intended release date.
