James Gunn denies Guardians of the Galaxy star is in Superman: Legacy

DC boss James Gunn has set the record straight with regards to reports of Guardians of the Galaxy star Pom Klementieff being cast in Superman: Legacy.

Klementieff and Miriam Shor, who played Mantis and Recorder Vim respectively in the Marvel universe, were reported to have been the latest additions to the upcoming DC Universe that's being overseen by Gunn and Peter Safran.

"Despite Pom being one of my favourite actors to work with, this is 100% not true," Gunn confirmed in a statement on Threads.

"Not only is Pom not in the movie, but no one has ever even discussed her being in the movie, nor do I have any idea what role she would possibly play."

Marking the start of the new superhero extended universe, Superman: Legacy boasts a star-studded cast ahead of its release on July 11, 2025. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan signed on as Superman and Lois Lane, before a flurry of cast announcements followed.

The Righteous Gemstones star Skyler Gisondo will play the Daily Planet's photographer Jimmy Olsen, as well as Crisis star Sara Sampaio who stars as villain Eve Teschmacher and X-Men's Nicholas Hoult as Eve's boss Lex Luthor.

The cast also features The Suicide Squad's Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern Corps member Guy Gardner, Twilight star Edi Gathegi as Mr Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer from the upcoming DC movie The Authority.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Sean Gunn, who played Kraglin Obfonteri in the franchise, was recently announced to be taking on the role of DC villain Maxwell Lord.

Ahead of the latest casting news, the DC boss has criticised what he describes as "cameo porn" in recent superhero movies. "I don't mind actual cameos — if it's a glimpse or a moment, an Easter egg. What bothers me is when they mangle an elegant story by shoehorning characters in," Gunn said on Threads earlier this week.

Superman: Legacy premieres in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
