James Gregory brings 'Funniest Man in America' comedy show to Alexandria this Saturday

Comedian James Gregory has been all over Louisiana, but Saturday will be the first time he has been to Alexandria when he brings his show, “The Funniest Man in America,” to the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at Coughlin-saunderspac.org/tickets.

This is a completely family-friendly show, Gregory said in a phone interview from Atlanta.

“It’s suitable for all ages, whether you’re 18 or 80 or 8,” he said. “It’s good, down home, funny, funny stuff.”

“His comedy is based on his life experiences. It’s real, it’s funny and audiences love it,” said Matt Henry, executive director of the Arts Council of Central Louisiana.

“I hate to brag so much but it’s funny, funny, funny,” Gregory said while laughing.

Gregory wants audiences to know that there is no profanity in his shows. And he doesn’t discuss politics or any current events.

“I don’t talk about the news or politicians, and I’ll tell you why,” he said. “People watch the news every day, all day long anyway. So when they come to see a show, especially a comedy show, they need to get away from the news for awhile.”

He tells stories about “crazy kinfolks.”

“We all have crazy kinfolks,” he said, laughing.

He also talks about his fear of flying.

“I had this longtime fear of flying. I don’t mind flying once a year, to catch up on my drinking and my praying,” he joked.

For this trip to Alexandria, he will be driving.

“James Gregory is constantly touring and brings his unique brand of humor based on his life experiences and observations of crazy relatives,” Henry said.

Gregory appears on weekly syndicated radio shows, James has also appeared in concert with Kenny Chesney, Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, Ricky Skaggs and others, Henry said.
