James Brolin Details 'Instant' Attraction to Barbra Streisand After Her Bold First Impression

James Brolin and Barbra Streisand

James Brolin's attraction to Barbra Streisand was "instant," according to a new interview featuring the "Woman in Love" singer and her husband of 25 years.

Evidently, Streisand, 81, and Brolin, 83, were set up at a dinner party—and Streisand's opening line was certainly memorable.

"I walked by him, touched his hair and said, 'Who f--ked up your hair?' Because that was the truth," Streisand recounted in a sneak peek CBS Sunday Morning on X.

She continued: "What else was I going to say? 'Hello, my name is Barbara.' I mean, what?"

Co-host Gayle King asked Brolin, "Jim, some people could have been turned off by that kind of directness. You were not. That was attractive to you, right?"

"Very," the actor affirmed.

"It was. Why?" King asked.

"No, it was instant," Brolin said, snapping his fingers for emphasis as Streisand laughed. "It was like a wand went, bing. Uh oh, you're screwed."

Streisand was married to actor Elliott Gould from 1963 to 1971, before she and Brolin tied the knot in 1998.

Meanwhile, Brolin was married twice before Streisand: to wildlife activist Jane Cameron Agee from 1996 to 1984, and to actress Jan Smithers from 1986 to 1995.

During a 2021 interview with Parade, Brolin reflected on marriage and what's crucial once the honeymoon phase ends.

"I think a common question with all relationships is what you do when the endorphins leave," he said. "Because there’s something about biology that keeps you like that for a while. You’re not in the right mind, and then work and logic and boredom come, and you have to switch to that lifetime love."
