With Ja'Marr Chase questionable to play vs. Chiefs, here's how Bengals win in Kansas City

The Cincinnati Bengals (8-7) travel to Kansas City to take on a foe they’ve become very familiar with in the Chiefs (9-6) on Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium.

With the Bengals losing to the Steelers last week, they have to win their next two games to get into the playoffs.

Kansas City is coming off an unexpected loss to the Los Angeles Raiders on Christmas and will be looking to get back in the win column.

Last week's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers has quarterback Jake Browning and the Bengals almost certainly needing to win their final two games to make the playoffs.

Here’s how the Bengals beat the Chiefs:

Limit Travis Kelce’s production

Cincinnati’s No. 1 priority on Sunday must be to limit All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce’s production.

The Bengals lead the NFL in yards allowed to tight ends (1,023) according to ESPN Stats & Information. Kelce is quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ top target and the Bengals are fully aware of what he’s capable of.

Kelce has 90 catches for 968 yards and five touchdowns so far this season. He’s most effective on third down and that’s an area the Bengals have struggled at all season. It will be a mix of players responsible for trying to slow Kelce down.

Cincinnati needs to play much better against tight ends and it should start with getting in Kelce’s head early on. He’s recently been as emotional as we’ve seen him this year and if the Bengals can get to him early, it could end up being the difference in the game.

Take care of the ball

Turnovers killed the Bengals in their most recent loss to the Steelers. Quarterback Jake Browning threw three interceptions and it prevented Cincinnati from stringing together any momentum on offense.

Getting Pro Bowl wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase back would help Browning if he's able to play. Chase is questionable to go as he continues to deal with a shoulder injury suffered against the Minnesota Vikings but was trending in a positive direction after being limited in practice on Thursday and Friday.

Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters "we'll see" when asked if Chase will play on Friday.

Browning knows the importance of ball security on the road and when going up against the reigning Super Bowl champions, it should be his top priority.

“I think my main takeaway is my bad plays have to be incompletions, or check downs, not picks,” Browning said this week.

The Bengals need to protect the ball, particularly quarterback Jake Browning who threw three interceptions in last week's loss to the Steelers.

Kansas City is having a down year to their standard but they still posses the best quarterback in the NFL and one of the best head coaches in NFL history. This Chiefs team is going to come into the game looking to get back on track and the Bengals can’t afford to give their offense more opportunities.

The Chiefs are averaging 22.2 points per game.

Play sharp in all three areas

It’s go big or go home time for the Bengals. In order to make the postseason, the Bengals need to win their next two games.

Going into Kansas City and winning isn’t an easy feat. The Bengals know what they’re going up against and it will take nearly a perfect game from the Bengals to win without Joe Burrow.

Offense, defense and special teams need to have their best game of the season. Cincinnati can’t afford to make things harder on themselves with penalties and blown assignments if they expect to win.

The only thing that matters right now for them is beating Kansas City to keep their season alive. We’ll see if they are up to the task.
