The Jackonsville Jaguars appear to have their sights set on a lesser-known head coaching candiate.

The Jaguars are searching out a replacement for Urban Meyer, who was nothing short of a disaster in his first and only year in Jacksonville.

Despite strong opposition by many, GM Trent Baalke has spearheaded the new coaching search. He appears to have found his potential man.

Baalke is reportedly targeting Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to be the Jaguars’ next head coach, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. From the sound of it, the decision will ultimately depend on Eberflus’ willingness to work alongside Baalke.

“Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke, whose role in the team’s ongoing coaching search has confounded many around the league and angered Jacksonville’s fanbase, has most recently aligned himself with Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus in his attempt to find a coach willing to eagerly work alongside him, league sources said,” writes La Canfora, via CBS Sports.

This would be an underwhelming hire in a lot of ways. Perhaps that’s a good thing after the Urban Meyer fiasco which made all sorts of noise.

The reality is Baalke isn’t always going to select the best candidate out there. He wants a head coach who aligns with his vision of the organization, whether it’s right or not.

Stealing a coordinator away from a division opponent is never a bad thing. But there’s way too many candidates out there for Jacksonville to still consider instead of settling for a defensive coordinator from your own division.
