Jacksonville football QB Jim Ogle shows what Troy fans can expect in win over Bibb County

CENTREVILLE — If they wanted to get a preview of an incoming talent, all Troy fans needed to do was take a trip up US-82 and catch Jim Ogle lead his Jacksonville high football team to a 28-21 win over Bibb County.

The win showed the kind of quarterback the Trojans would be getting next year as Ogle's poise shined brightest when the Golden Eagles needed it. First, there was the drive before halftime when he went 4-of-5 for 51 yards to lead a scoring drive. He used the Tom Brady quote of "check downs are first downs" to a T, finding his running back for three of the plays — all of which earned first downs.

The second set of big-time plays was when the Golden Eagles needed him most, with the game tied and two minutes to go. He led another drive, showing off his arm talent and what he can do on the ground. He went 3-of-3 for 35 yards and the score, with a crucial third down run. If his dad gets his way, what was shown on the field on Friday is exactly what Troy fans should expect next season.

"It's my hope that he shows up to Troy and he is who they thought he was," said Jim Ogle Jr., the father of the prized recruit said. "I know that sounds crazy, but I've been on that side too and I hope he shows up and has a great experience and shows them the same things he shows us on a daily basis."

The youngest Ogle, who is the third to carry his name, has been joining his father to work since he was a little boy. Off the field, he is one of the first players into the weight room and the last to leave.

And if he can't lift at school the garage weight room is always open.

"They can expect a great quarterback," Jacksonville coach Clint Smith said. "He's got great football IQ, he's got great accuracy, he can put it where he needs to put it. ... He's going to go down there a develop and there's no doubt that he's going to be a great college quarterback.

For Troy fans wanting to see a glimpse of the future, Ogle and Caleb McCreary — the other quarterback in next year's class for the Trojans — will battle it out in Jacksonville next week as the Golden Eagles host Montgomery Catholic. Ogle says he expects to hear from McCreary during the week.
