Jack Nicklaus is back: Here are his scores for three rounds at Augusta after Masters

Jack Nicklaus is on the comeback trail.

Well, not really, but he has been playing more golf lately.

Nicklaus played three rounds in April at Augusta following Scottie Scheffler's win at the Masters, which, he said, makes four rounds this year. That number doubles his total rounds of golf from the previous two years.

“I shot 88, 90 and 91. That’s a 269 for three rounds, which is a pretty good four-round score,” he said during the Legends Luncheon ahead of the Memorial, a tournament Nicklaus founded and hosts.

“That’s what I play anymore. They don’t have any forward tees at Augusta. I can’t play 6,400 yards. I hit the ball 190 yards anymore, if I kill it. I played once last year, once the year before, and I’ve played four times this year already.”

Nicklaus played at Augusta with friends and longtime supporters of the Nicklaus Children's Health Care Foundation. Sunday, he played in a 9-hole scramble with Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Annika Sorenstam and Tom Watson at the Folds of Honor Greats of Golf  during the PGA TOUR Champions Insperity Invitational at the Woodlands Country Club.

During a clinic at PGA National in October, Nicklaus said he wasn't sure if he'd ever play a full round again, admitting it's "just really not any fun," because he hits the ball "so poorly."

Nicklaus has said the last time he played a round of golf where he holed out every putt was the 2005 British Open at St. Andrews, the final major - and PGA Tour event - of his career. He has been an honorary starter at the Masters since 2010.

"People always say they want to play how I do," Nicklaus said in October. "Well, now they can. In fact, I don't think they want to play like I do."

If playing like Jack Nicklaus means breaking 90 at Augusta National, many surely will take that.
