Ivermectin users at the butt of new Lincoln Project parody

A new ad by the Lincoln Project takes a poke at ivermectin — the latest COVID “treatment option” that’s all the rage among contrarians who won’t take a medically approved COVID vaccine.

The satirical video is meant to look like a prescription drug commercial.

“When it comes to protecting yourself against the COVID-19 virus, the FDA approved vaccine might not be the right choice for patients who are allergic to reality,” the spoof begins. “That’s why there’s ivermectin, the COVID-19 treatment option for real patriots.”

While there is a grade of ivermectin made to treat parasites in humans, the Food and Drug Administration has not found evidence that it protects against the COVID virus. Right-wing entertainers on cable TV and social media have pushed the drug in recent weeks. Several states have encountered problems with people purchasing and consuming animal-grade ivermectin, which is dangerous.

“With ivermectin, you can say neigh to the FDA and take matters into your own hooves,” the Lincoln Project ad says to the sounds of a whinnying horse.

It also warns that ivermectin users refrain from taking the drug while wearing your “good pants.”

Drugs.com lists possible side-effects of ivermectin as dizziness, nausea and diarrhea.

“Call your doctor if you begin to experience delusions of grandeur about the supremacy of your race,” the ad continues as soft music plays. “Homicidal thoughts or actions toward your elected representatives can occur without warning.”

Three men sexually assaulted nine horses, a cow, a goat and dogs

That zinger starts with a normal guy sitting at his desk working, then quickly flashes to right-wing fanatics storming the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. The ad concluded by telling those considering using ivermectin to talk to their “large animal veterinarian today.”

The ad, posted to Twitter, caused many to wonder why people would eschew tried, tested and FDA approved vaccines in favor of other options. Further testing of ivermectin and its use in treating COVID are ongoing.

An FDA issued a public warning last month on Twitter warning “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.”

The Lincoln Project is a political action committee formed by past and present Republicans who oppose the direction their party took under the Trump Administration in 2016. One of its founders is attorney George Conway, whose wife Kellyanne Conway, was part of the that administration. She was also one of 18 Trump appointees ousted from her role as a U.S. Military Academy board member this week.

The Lincoln Project seemed to tweet its approval of that move by the Biden administration Thursday.
