Ivanka Trump weeps as Trump administration comes to an end

While many Americans cried tears of joy at President Biden’s inauguration, Trump supporters including his daughter Ivanka were saddened by what could be the end of an era.

Ivanka Trump, a former advisor to the president, wept as her father made his final speech as the commander-in-chief at Andrews Air Force Base Wednesday morning before flying to Florida to begin his life as an ex-president.

The 39-year-old businesswoman wrote a thank you note to supporters on Twitter on the last night of her dad’s presidency, where she called her role in the Trump administration “the honor of a lifetime.”

There has been speculation that Ivanka or her brother Don Jr. could follow in their father’s footsteps and pursue a career in politics. The former president could also run for office again in 2024, pending a Senate trial following his House of Representatives impeachment for his part in the Jan. 6 violence at the U.S. Capitol following his electoral loss.

Trump has falsely claimed for months that the election had been somehow rigged against him. Right-wing radicals at the Capitol were fueled by that baseless conspiracy theory.

Ivanka and her siblings were not among the slew of people pardoned by the 45th president on his last day in office. None of them have so far been charged with anything, though Trump Organization business dealings reportedly appear to be under investigation.

Ivanka was deposed in Washington, D.C., last month with regards to excessive spending at her father’s 2017 inauguration.

The former Trump Organization executive vice president described that five-hour inquiry as “another politically motivated demonstration of vindictiveness & waste of taxpayer dollars.”
