Ivanka Trump co-hosted the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in Hyderabad, India, on Tuesday morning, alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where she aimed to highlight the importance of entrepreneurial women in global businesses. However, she couldn’t escape fashion criticism while doing so.

The first daughter and senior presidential adviser arrived in the technology epicenter on Monday evening, where she was greeted by a number of officials from the host country. But the part that stood out most for followers of the namesake designer was the jacket she was wearing for the occasion.

The structured black jacket with white pearl detailing was called “subtle yet classy” by a writer at The Indian Express, who gave a nod to Trump for incorporating “Indian-style patterns” into her ensemble — until ornamental detailing took over her look on the day of the summit.

For her official meeting with Prime Minister Modi and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, Trump wore a multicolored jacquard midi dress by Erdem, decorated with pink and yellow flowers. The pleated dress, which retails for $3,550, wasn’t seen as part of the designer’s usually sophisticated sense of style, but instead was questioned for being perceived as “gaudy.”

Both India Today and Swirlster by NDTV panned Trump’s second look, with the support of Twitter users, who also expressed their disappointment.

It didn’t go unnoticed that Trump opted out of wearing the clothing of an Indian designer, as the Duchess of Cambridge and former first lady Michelle Obama had done during their visits to the country. However, Trump is expected to wear a traditional Indian outfit designed by Neeta Lulla later during her trip.
