ITV confirms details of Oscars programming after taking over for 2024
ITV has confirmed details of its programming for the 96th Academy Awards.
The channel has won the rights to broadcast the Oscars after Sky chose to forego a new deal to air Hollywood's Biggest Night for the first time in 20 years.
This year's show will take place on March 10 from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, where it will be hosted by US late-night presenter Jimmy Kimmel for the fourth time.
This year, the ceremony will be airing live and free exclusively on ITV1, ITVX, STV and the STV Player, including Jonathan Ross presenting with several celebrity friends from 10.30pm.
Viewers can also choose an alternate stream live from the Dolby Theatre's red carpet as of 9.30pm, to be hosted by Lorraine's Lorraine Kelly and Good Morning Britain's Ross King.
In addition to the live coverage, ITVX viewers will also be able to access exclusive behind-the-scenes segments exploring the pageantry of the Oscars.
Once all of the awards are handed out, ITV will be condensing the four-plus hour telecast into 90 minutes of highlights that will air from 10.45pm on Monday, March 11.
ITV will be offering exclusive coverage of the weeks leading up to the Oscars as well, including an ITVX live stream of the nominees being announced on Tuesday, January 23.
ITVX is set to offer a FAST channel from February 26 where classic Oscar-nominated and winning films can be watched before the awards show, and there will be additional coverage on Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning, Loose Women and ITV News in the coming weeks.
Ahead of this year's event, the Academy has changed its rules for Best Picture so, as of 2025, films will need to spend more time in cinemas to get a nomination rather than going straight to streaming. This rule was originally adjusted in light of the COVID-19 pandemic to allow for more streaming access but will now be reversed.
The 96th Oscars will air exclusively on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK on March 10, 2024.
