A recap and roundup of Week 11 high school football action in San Angelo and the Concho Valley.

Key Outcomes

Early 35, San Angelo TLCA 21

The Longhorns (5-5, 4-1) bounced back with a 35-21 win over the Eagles (5-5, 2-3) to capture the second seed in District 2-3A Division II. Cheslock led the way for Early with 217 yards and two touchdowns rushing with the defense forcing three turnovers to secure the 14-point victory.

With the loss, TLCA San Angelo stayed in the fourth spot and will face off against Crane in the first round of the playoffs. After earning their second playoff berth last year, the Eagles now have back-to-back seasons with a playoff appearance. The Eagles also faced off against Crane (7-3, 6-0) last year and lost 55-20, but sport a more explosive offense and experienced team this year.

Wall 68, Brady 0

Eighth-ranked Wall (8-2, 4-0) won its second-straight District 2-3A Division II championship with its win over Brady (3-7, 2-3) at home. In four district matchups, Wall outscored its opponents 315-24 including two shutout wins. With the win, the Eagles will face off against Tornillo in the first round — a matchup the Coyotes (0-9, 0-6) forfeited last year.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs (3-7, 2-3) secured the third seed — after a 38-18 win over TLCA San Angelo Week 6 — and will face off against Alpine in the first round of the playoffs. Last year, Brady lost 57-55 to Alpine in overtime in the playoffs, but are a significantly younger team this year. The Bulldogs, though, have upset teams as underdogs led by their strong rushing attack with running backs Zeke Jones and Daryl Adair.

Grape Creek 30, Ballinger 13

After Grape Creek (2-8, 2-3) lost 19 straight games over three seasons, the Eagles pulled off back-to-back wins over Brady and Ballinger (0-10, 0-5) to send the season. Grape Creek struggled with turnover this season, but in the last two games, they cut down on the turnovers and scored two of their highest point totals this season.

Despite another loss for the Bearcats, they showed promise on offense in their last three games. Ballinger had a difficult schedule this season with all but one of their opponents making the postseason this year. With a potential move down to Class 2A next year, Ballinger can hit the reset button after two tough years in District 2-3A Division II.

Miles 49, Cross Plains 19

The Bulldogs (7-3, 3-2) bounced back again this week after a close loss to Roscoe last week. After getting down early to the Plowboys on the road last week, the explosive Miles offense jumped on the Buffaloes going up multiple scores in the first half led by quarterback Hayven Book who threw for five touchdowns and ran for another two.

After finishing third in District 6-2A Division II, the Bulldogs will face off against Sterling City for the fourth time in two years. The Eagles (6-3, 3-2) handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the season this year in a 36-32 road decision. Sterling City is 2-1 in its past three matchups against Miles, but is coming off two district losses to Eldorado and Wink.

Irion County 86, Veribest 38

The Hornets (8-2, 4-0) won their second-straight outright district title with a win over Veribest (8-2, 2-2) after making a semifinal state appearance last year. Irion County got off to a rough start this season starting 2-2 after losses to Buena Vista and Highland, but won six straight to finish the season.

Veribest started the season undefeated through the first seven games but dropped two of its last three games to finish just outside of the playoff picture. The Falcons finished with their best record since 2015 and will return a lot of the starters from this year's team next year.
