IRC site of 10-12-acre brush fire monitored by fire crews after weekend blaze
INDIAN RIVER COUNTY − Firefighters and forestry workers monitored a wooded area Monday for remnants of a 10-12 acre brush fire contained over the weekend, fire officials said.
The fire occurred off 27th Avenue Southwest and Oslo Road and was reported by law enforcement officers shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
It was considered "100% contained" around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m. Sunday, said an Indian River County Fire Rescue official.
"We’re out there today working on any hot spots," Assistant Chief Richard Marini said Monday.
The fire remains under investigation by the Florida Forestry Service, but Marini said it was not considered suspicious.
The fire was on wooded property just north of a 27th Avenue Southwest Dollar General, and outside the western boundary of the Bradford Place gated development.
No buildings were reported damaged or threatened.
"We put a stop on it before it got close...," Marini said.
The fire approached roadside power lines, but Marini said they were later inspected by Florida Power and Light workers.
Marini said he was not sure if the fire occurred in or near a homeless encampment in the area.
