Iran sees record high COVID cases 3 days in a row

Iran is seeing a new surge in coronavirus cases as the Middle Eastern country recorded a record high number of cases for the third day in a row.

The country on Thursday recorded 22,586 new cases, The Associated Press reports.

The uptick comes after the Persian New Year, also known as Nowruz, during which millions went against government guidance to both congregate and travel.

With Thursday’s numbers, the country has now seen over 2 million infections of COVID-19.

Iran has lost an additional 185 people to the virus, bringing the death toll to a total of 63,884.
