You’re invited to The Star’s free holiday portrait pop-up at Crown Center on Saturday

Come get your complimentary holiday portrait taken with the mayor’s Christmas tree by The Kansas City Star’s world class photographers this weekend.

The Star’s holiday portrait pop-up will run from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17 outside on the south side of Crown Center Square, near the entrance to SEA LIFE and LEGOLAND Discovery Center with the tree in the background. The Star’s reporters and photographers will be there to greet you, with a professional lighting set up and picture perfect background ready to go.

All are welcome to get their portrait taken, completely free of charge. So whether you want to take a picture with your grandparents or even your best friend, make sure to come through to capture the holiday spirit. Portraits will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

Photos taken at the event will be emailed to everyone who stops by. Guests will then be free to post, edit or print their photo. If you’d like, you will also have the option to have your photo featured in the paper and published online, but this is not required.

All you need to do is to show up between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., and fill out a quick form with your contact information so our team can send the photos back to you, as soon as possible.

Then, you can head up to the Ice Terrace or check out some of the other holiday fun Crown Center has to offer.

Holiday fun with the Soul of Santa

This holiday portrait pop-up is one of two pop-up portrait studios that The Star set up in the community this season. Last weekend, The Star’s reporters and photographers met up with community members at the Shops on Blue Parkway for the Soul of Santa Community Breakfast and Toy Giveaway.

The Star’s team was able to meet lots of families and share dozens of portraits. It’s been a privilege to fellowship with more Kansas Citians, and we look forward to seeing you at Crown Center on Dec. 17 to keep the ball rolling.

These pop-up events are part of The Star’s efforts to be more involved in and connected to our community that we feel so lucky to be a part of, which our interim executive editor recently wrote about.

In addition to free portraits, The Star has also launched a community listening project to help redesign our coverage of the local governments and institutions that serve Kansas City, Wyandotte and Johnson counties. If you’d like to share your feedback on how The Star could be more helpful to you and your neighbors, you can fill out the form here.
