‘Person of interest’ in missing Florida teen case found dead

A 27-year-old man who was described by law enforcement as a person of interest in the case of a missing teen was found dead Monday.

Orange County Sheriff John Mina told the Orlando Sentinel that Armando Manuel Caballero, a maintenance worker at the Orlando apartment complex where 19-year-old Miya Marcano lived, became a person of interest after reportedly using a master key to enter her apartment on Friday afternoon.

Marcano, who has not been seen since, had previously rebuffed Caballero’s romantic overtures, police said.

“Miya is still missing,” Mina said. “...We are still doing everything possible we can to find her.”

Mina said foul play was suspected in Marcano’s disappearance.

Prior to the discovery of Caballero’s body, an arrest warrant had been issued for illegally accessing Marcano’s apartment.

Mina said the cause of death was likely suicide but did not detail any further.

Marcano’s family has asked for the public’s help in tracking her down and believe she is alive but possibly in danger.

OCSO said the case remains under investigation and asked anyone with any information to call the OCSO non-emergency line at 407-836-4357 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
