The Internet Is Freaking Out After a Video from the Eras Tour Movie—But It Has Nothing To Do With Taylor Swift

Inside of a movie theater

In recent weeks, we've seen a flood of content coming in from Taylor Swift fans going to see her new concert movie in theaters. There is friendship bracelet swapping, Eras Tour outfit inspiration, joking about how to best use the fan-favorite popcorn bucket and more. But one video brought about quite a few unhinged comments and one major realization—leaving many to ask: "Do movie theaters have cameras?!"

It all started with a TikTok video of a group of Swifties holding hands and walking in a circle at the very front of a movie theater. The caption overlaying the video says: "what swifties look like to movie theater workers. low key the cultiest thing i've ever seen."

However, one of the first comments on the video (with nearly 20k "likes") summarizes the overall reaction well: "Grateful I'm not the only person horrified right now. And no not at the circling swifties."

The internet is not having it with this newfound knowledge.

"High school me is mortified that theaters had cameras," one commenter wrote, receiving over 24k "likes."

"The fact that they can see the back row perfectly is even worse," another said.

One user kept it short with: "So about these cameras."

Another TikToker asked: "Oh lord they can see inside the theater?😳"

That being said, other TikTok users were surprised that this news was such a revelation to everyone else.

One comment with over three thousand "likes" said: "how did NONE of y'all have the common sense to know that there's camera's in theatres 😭"

Although this is news to many of us, others have posted videos on the same topic in the past.

In 2022, Movieland Cinemas posted a TikTok explaining the safety reasons for having surveillance cameras, referencing the 2012 tragedy in Aurora, Colorado and saying the cameras are "to make sure that everyone is safe and behaving properly while watching the film."
