Internet Calls Out Buckingham Palace for Severely Underpaid Job Listing

Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace is once again facing backlash from the public, and this time, it involves a job listing that internet users are slamming for the compensation offering.

As reported by London news outlet LBC, the royal palace is looking for a communications assistant for the private secretary's office. The open position comes in the midst of the media chaos involving the mystery surrounding Kate Middleton, who was recently caught altering a photo she posted earlier this month for Mother's Day in the U.K.

But even in the midst of #KateGate, according to the listing on the Royal Household website, the position only offers a yearly salary of £25,642.50 (roughly $32, 473.28)—which users online feel is severely inadequate considering the Palace's apparent need for expertise in their communications and media department.

"£25k communications assistant? They need Olivia Pope for this mess," CEO tech Christopher Bouzy wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in response to the listing, referring to Kerry Washington's character on the political drama Scandal. (In the show, Olivia Pope is a high-profile crisis manager who "fixes" the scandals going on in Washington D.C.)

"💯 where is their fixer??" another user tweeted in agreement.

"they need kris jenner," someone else joked.

"This is clearly an entry-level job and still a ridiculously low salary considering what's needed and required," another user wrote online.

Other X users took the opportunity to poke fun at the royal family's recent photoshop blunder, after the Mother's Day photo of Kate with her and Prince Williams' three children was confirmed to have been edited. (The Princess of Wales later owned up to the situation, confessing in a tweet, "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.")

"£25k in the middle of London, it’s no wonder the staff can’t pick up on manipulated pictures that don’t meet press standards," one person tweeted.

"'Must be proficient at Photoshop,'" someone else added, clearly trolling the palace in light of recent events.

Another person joked that applicants for the open position "must be brunette skinny with prominent cheekbones and a good impersonator," after a new video sighting of Kate released over the weekend has been widely questioned over whether or not it's really her.

But the royal family is still standing by claims that it is in fact Kate with her husband in the video from Windsor Farm Shop, and the man who filmed the video has also come forward to say he saw the Princess "with my own eyes."
