International Portuguese Music Awards announce 2024 nominations. Here's the full list
PROVIDENCE – The list of nominations for the 12th annual International Portuguese Music Awards (IPMA) is out.
The 2024 nominees were revealed March 3 in a web stream.
“2024 IPMA showcases a diverse array of talent from five different countries, with Portugal, the USA, and Canada leading the charge,” IPMA co-founder David Saraiva told O Jornal. “The Pop and Rock categories have been particularly strong this year. Among the nominees are many familiar faces, as well as exciting new talents, highlighting the rich discovery process that is central to the spirit of IPMA.”
Several 2024 IPMA nominees have ties to Massachusetts
Aimed at honoring artists of Portuguese descent around the globe, the IPMA show is slated for Saturday, May 4, at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
There will be 12 awards up for grabs in categories including rock, rap, fado, world music, instrumental, and best new talent.
At least four 2024 IPMA nominees have ties to our region.
Jordan Ferreira - a singer, writer, and guitar player who is originally of Westport, Mass., and now lives in the Los Angeles area - is nominated in the Rock category for “Voodoo.”
“I am grateful to be included amongst a talented group of artists and performers,” said Ferreira, who recently got worldwide recognition for this collaboration on the latest album of the legendary band Extreme and happens to be the son of well-known Portuguese-American singer/composer Jorge Ferreira.
Pedro Silva, who was born in Caldas da Rainha but grew up in Hudson, Mass., is nominated in the Instrumental category for “Say What.”
While focusing on film and television music, he has experimented with Funk, Jazz, Rock, New Age, Ambient and other instrumental styles. This is not his first IPMA nomination, and he already took home the trophy for best Instrumental in 2019.
Assol Garcia, a native of Fogo, Cabo Verde, who now resides in Boston, is nominated in the World Music category for “Caxon Ka Tem Cofre,” featuring Charly Duri.
Winner of the Best New Artist Award at the 2017 Cabo Verde Music Awards, Garcia is considered by many to be one of the premier singers of traditional Cabo Verde music, particularly in interpreting the morna and coladeira genres.
“This is the third time I’ve been nominated in this category,” she said. “I’m very happy that my music has made it to this event and that once again I’ll be part of the IPMA.”
Alison Dasilva, 18, of Lowell, Mass., is a New Talent finalist. She has been singing Fado since she was 7 years old.
“Fado really speaks out to me and tells a big story no matter what fado it is,” she revealed.
Dasilva and the other New Talent finalist - Sofia Camara, of Canada - will be singing live at the show for a secret panel of judges scattered in the audience. They will be competing for a $2,000 prize, courtesy of MDC Music in Toronto.

Who is performing at the 2024 IPMA show?
The IPMA show will bring together a star-studded line-up of performers, including Barbara Bandeira, Joey Medeiros, Anjos, Sara Correia, Nuno Ribeiro and legendary band GNR.
Former NCIS: Los Angeles star Daniela Ruah will be co-hosting the show for a third consecutive time with Portuguese TV and radio personality Ricardo Farias.
“We are setting our sights high,” Saraiva said. “We have a great, dynamic lineup of performers and nominees and believe our 12th annual show will once again continue to strengthen the bond within the global Portuguese community. We urge the community to attend this internationally televised event and celebrate our culture with us.”
