Insidious 5's Lin Shaye already has an idea for an Elise spin-off movie

Insidious 5, officially titled Insidious: The Red Door, will scream into cinemas at the end of next week, bringing back the Lambert family from the first two films and putting them through the wringer once again.

Also making a return is scream queen Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier, the medium who died at the end of the first film but has been turning up in flashbacks and ghostly visions in every Insidious movie since.

Seeing as she is such an important character in the series, is it possible that she could go and get her own solo film?

"I think for Elise, there's more to do," Shaye told Digital Spy in an exclusive interview.

"I have a great idea. The fact that she is in the Further, and I have this one thought that I haven't even talked about really to anybody, but that she's able to transform. She has transformational qualities that we don't know about, and that could open up a whole new set of characters for her and for a storyline."

Shaye added: "I love the character and so does the audience, which is even more important, so I don't think we're done with her at all. Once you're in the Further, you can do anything."

Patrick Wilson, who played Josh Lambert in Insidious and Insidious: Chapter Two, is returning for the upcoming entry in the horror series. Plus, he's also stepped up to direct.

However, this might be the last we see of Wilson in the franchise, as The Red Door is being billed as the final chapter for the Lambert family. If that turns out to be true, could the filmmakers take up Shaye's idea to keep the franchise going? We'll have to wait and see.

Insidious: The Red Door is released in cinemas on July 7.
