Danish writer Peter Høeg once said, “Traveling tends to magnify all human emotions.” That likely includes heavy inspiration for photography, just ask Jonas Bendiksen, Cristina de Middel, Alessandra Sanguinetti, and Gregory Halpern, all of whom currently have their work displayed in the Impressions project, a new exhibition at Fotografiska New York on-view through August 30.

According to the museum, an outpost of the famed Swedish photography museum of the same name, “In Impressions, four celebrated photographers, inspired by extended stays at Autograph Collection Hotels, show us their takes on extraordinary places, revealing fresh perspectives through photography. This is the magic of travel—the chance to see things in a new way.”

Created and initiated by Autograph Collection Hotels, the project will next travel to Fotografiska’s Berlin and Shanghai locations and select Autograph Collection Hotels properties around the world through the end of the year, including those in South Carolina and London. On July 21, artists gathered for the opening of The Impressions project at Fotografiska in New York, the contemporary museum of photography, art, and culture, where it will be on-view through August 30. The show includes the work of award-winning photographers Cristina de Middel, Gregory Halpern, and Alessandra Sanguinetti. Autograph Collection Hotels conceptualized the idea as an ode to travel and photography's intertwining relationship.

“Photography has a unique ability to capture emotions, convey stories and effect change, just as travel does,” said Jennifer Connell, Global Brand Leader of Autograph Collection Hotels in a press release for the project. “Together with Fotografiska, we’re excited to shine a light on the vision, craft, heartfelt design, and unique stories of various Autograph Collection Hotels properties and their communities around the world through the lens of four wildly talented photographers, resulting in an indescribable, lasting impression.”

After its stay at Fotografiska, the show will open in Berlin and Shanghai, then travel to select Collection Hotels properties across the Us and the UK. Look through this gallery for a sneak preview of the show and its opening.
