Inland Lakes softball rolls on senior day; Pellston's Griffith wins two conference crowns

INDIAN RIVER – It was a special day for Inland Lakes softball in more ways than one.

First, the Bulldogs smashed through Gaylord St. Mary with 12-2 and 15-0 victories in a Ski Valley Conference doubleheader sweep on Wednesday.

But in-between games, the Bulldogs honored their three-player senior class of Maggie Grant, Erica Taglauer and Lakyn Thompson, who helped lead Inland Lakes in both contests.

Grant was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out four, allowing five hits and walking one.

Grant helped her cause at the plate by finishing with a team-high four hits and two RBIs. Myla Thompson smacked her first-career home run, while Adisyn Fenstermaker tripled, singled and had two RBIs, Erica Taglauer doubled and singled, Jenna Stubbs doubled, and Eva Carper, Alexis Langworthy and Brooklyn LaBrecque tallied a hit apiece.

LaBrecque had the hot bat in game two, finishing with a homer, a double, a single and four RBIs for the Bulldogs. Stubbs homered and knocked in three runs, Taglauer and Fenstermaker each had two singles, and Langworthy and Lakyn Thompson both doubled.

Grant picked up the pitching win again, striking out seven and allowing no hits.

Inland Lakes (17-8, 10-4 Ski Valley Conference) goes to Pellston on Friday.

Inland Lakes, Onaway, Pellston athletes win Ski Valley titles

MANCELONA – Athletes from Inland Lakes, Onaway and Pellston earned individual Ski Valley Conference titles at the SVC meet in Mancelona on Wednesday.

Leading the way was Pellston’s Laith Griffith, who won the boys 100 (11.39) and 200 (24.84).

For the Inland Lakes girls, Kaylee Taglauer captured first in the 200 (28.33).

The Inland Lakes boys 4X100 relay team of Alyx Willis, Jake Feagan, Tanner Howard and Sam Schoonmaker crossed the line first with a 47.85 time.

Rounding out the individual first places were Onaway’s Jadin Mix, who won the boys 300 hurdles (42.33), and Xavier Santiago, who was first in the boys high jump (5-8).

INLAND LAKES WINS REGIONAL TITLE: Balanced effort lifts Inland Lakes girls to second consecutive regional track title

Johannesburg-Lewiston (139 points) won the boys Ski Valley title, while Central Lake-Ellsworth (136) captured the girls crown by edging runner-up Mancelona (135).
