A heavy-equipment operator working at a logging operation in Polk County was flown by an emergency helicopter Thursday afternoon after the machine flipped over with him inside, SW Polk Fire District officials said.

District spokeswoman Sheila Peirce said emergency crews at the Bridgeport station were called at noon and were at the logging site within 17 minutes.

A yarder — used to move logs from one point to another — had tipped over on its side, Peirce said.

The man's injuries initially were assessed as non-life-threatening, but it was decided he should be airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis for further evaluation and treatment, she said.

No other injuries were reported.
