After Inheriting Pole Position For 6 Hours of Spa, No. 5 Penske Porsche Crashes Out

The No. 5 Porsche Penske started on the pole position for the 6 hours at Sp on Friday after the No. 50 Ferrari Afcorse was announced underweight.

Frédéric Makowiecki led the opening 13 laps before being passed by the No. 99 Proton Porsche.

Michael Christensen was running in third position with two minutes remaining in the first half of the race when he carried too much speed into the bus stop turn, slid sideways, and hit the curb before continuing to ride it, tearing up the bottom of his hypercar. The damage was too severe for the team to repair ending the day for the first Porsche Penske team.

The team will look to rebound and prepare for the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans next month.

The No. 50 that originally sat on the pole has advanced to second with two-thirds of the race completed, making up 17 positions after their penalty.
