The future of the Indiana Jones franchise has been addressed by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy following new movie The Dial of Destiny.

The upcoming big screen outing is touted as Harrison Ford's final outing as the iconic character, though Kennedy has suggested that it could continue on TV in the future.

"It's Harrison's last entry," she told Entertainment Weekly's Dagobah Dispatch podcast. "That's how we look at the Indy franchise.

"I mean, truthfully, right now, if we were to do anything, it might be in series television down the road, but we're not doing anything to replace Indiana Jones."

"This is it. It's five movies that Harrison Ford did. And Harrison is so specific and so unique to creating this role. We just… Steven [Spielberg] agrees, we just wouldn't do that," Kennedy added.

It comes after it was reported last year that a Disney+ spinoff series was in the works, though it was later claimed that the show was scrapped by Lucasfilm under the direction of Disney as they planned to dial back on non-Star Wars content.

Last month, Ford confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny would be the final time he plays the character, the actor saying that he "will not be involved" in a potential streaming series, even if it does "come to fruition".

"This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I'll play the character. I anticipate that it will be the last time that he appears in a film," he added to Total Film.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.
