Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's runtime has been announced – and it's the franchise's longest entry to date.

Executive producer Kathleen Kennedy told Collider at the recent Star Wars Celebration in London that the movie is "around 2 hours 22 [or] 23 minutes", adding that runtime "seems to be a hot topic".

So now, 1989's The Last Crusade becomes Indy's second-longest outing at 2 hours 8 minutes.

Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, added: "I will say the early movies were shorter, they were under 2 [hours] 15 [minutes], and we talked about that quite a bit. So, now I see why maybe they're interested in this.

"But as you know with runtime it's all about how you feel, right? So if you're sitting in a movie and it feels long, you're like, 'Uh...'

"We're not dealing with a long movie."

Kennedy then argued that cinemagoers are receptive to "long-form storytelling" on streaming, which is carrying over into movies.

Director James Mangold previously teased a spectacular opening to Indy's final adventure, which will see Harrison Ford's de-aged hero tearing through a Nazi-occupied castle in 1944.

"I wanted the chance to dive into this kind of full-on George-and-Steven [directors Lucas and Spielberg] old picture and give the audience an adrenaline blast," he explained.

"And then we fall out [of that], and you find yourself in 1969.

"So that the audience doesn't experience the change between the '40s and '60s as an intellectual conceit, but literally experiences the buccaneering spirit of those early days... and then the beginning of now."

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled for release on June 30.
