Indiana baseball outfielder Devin Taylor earns consecutive first team All-Big Ten honors

Indiana baseball outfielder Devin Taylor became the first player in program history to earn first team All-Big Ten honors in both of his first two years of college baseball on Wednesday.

The sophomore became the first IU player to earn first-team honors in consecutive seasons since 2013-14 when Scott Donley, Kyle Schwarber and Dustin DeMuth accomplished the feat.

Taylor was one of one seven Hoosiers to earn conference honors this season.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native had a team-best .362 batting average with 17 home runs, 47 RBIs and 61 runs scored. He ranked among the top 10 hitters in the Big Ten in each category.

Indiana's other honorees included sophomore pitcher Connor Foley (second team All-Big Ten), redshirt freshman utility player Joey Brenczewski (second team All-Big Ten) and sophomore shortstop Tyler Cerny (third team All-Big Ten).

Foley limited opposing hitters to a .152 batting average while going 4-1 in 12 starts (56.2 innings pitched) with a 3.81 ERA. He also ranked fifth in the Big Ten with 75 strikeouts and his 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings ranked second.

The Hoosiers were 10-2 in the regular season in games he started.

Injuries opened up a spot in the lineup for Brenczewski, who made the most of the playing time with a .353 batting average (.407 in conference games), three home runs and 42 RBIs.

Cerny, a Greenwood, Indiana native, hit 10 home runs with a team-high 56 RBIs while starting all 53 regular season games. He was the only player in the Big Ten with 10 or more home runs, 20 or more doubles and 50 or more RBIs.

The Hoosiers also had three players — Brenczewski, second baseman Jasen Oliver and pitcher Jacob Vogel — make the conference's All-Freshman Team and catcher Jake Stadler earned a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner.
