New Indian fusion restaurant Dhamaal set to open in Montclair next month

Montclair will get it's very own taste of Indian fusion as the new restaurant Dhamaal is set to open to the public in early May at 11 South Fullerton Ave.

Dhamaal is set to open on May 3 in a soft launch with limited menu items and the grand opening will be the following week on May 10.

The owners are cousins Mohit Dhanani of Jersey City and Dhruv Patel from Monroe, who own the spot along with two of their other cousins from Parsippany and Hackensack. They say Dhamaal is a desi-craft kitchen where they take "traditional Indian dishes and elevate it to a level where we would not blend in with other Indian restaurants. We want to expose our way of Indian food to Montclair."

The menu includes classic Indian meals such as palak paneer, chicken tikka and dal bukhara. What sets them apart is their fusion dishes such as their own Indian style pizzas, tacos and chicken croquettes. They also say they have a large seafood collection in addition to their other recipes such as their take on crab cakes, salmon and lobster. You can even try their unique meats such as duck and rabbit.

The restaurant is filled with exquisite scenery as their large murals of a woman and a tiger are placed across their walls. Bright colors of orange and red painted all across the inside create a vibrant atmosphere. The artificial trees that travel from the floor along to the top of the ceiling also adds to the eatery's aura. The owners say they are going for an "upbeat vibe" with their restaurant setup.

Dhamaal is BYOB but they have a bar area that will serve Indian style mocktails, nonalcoholic beverages, that include their spin-offs to tequila, bourbon and vodka.

They also say they will have a unique way of presenting the food with new plating ideas such as a bicycle with food coming out.

The cousins also own the Indian restaurant Four Monkeys in Summit that they say is currently doing great business. They got their name Dhamaal from a popular Indian comedy. The owners hope to see more success which may come their way as they signed their lease on the day of Diwali.

Dhamaal replaces a Sicilian restaurant that was located in that same address. Eleven South was closed indefinitely on Dec. 17 after being open for seven months.

The new eatery has an Instagram account where they will post more updates about their restaurant.
