Some like it hot. But no one likes it hot in bed (at least not when it comes to sleeping anyway). If you’re a hot sleeper, you know that just getting to sleep each night can feel downright impossible. And, even though summer is over, some of us still struggle with night sweats, clammy bedding, and never quite being able to find “the cool side of the pillow.” But one simple thing can help: Cooling sheets.

Just like the best cooling mattresses and cooling pillows, the best cooling sheets can offer relief for hot sleepers. Most use some combination of temperature-regulating fabrics, specially woven patterns, and even keep-cool treatments to trap and dissipate heat so you can sleep cooler throughout the night. We promise it’s not all marketing hype; they really do work!

The problem is that shopping for bedding these days is almost as confusing as shopping for a new car. There’s a whole lot of lingo and fancy terms to make sense of, so it’s hard to know what’s worth buying and what isn’t. If you’re tired of struggling to fall asleep at night amid a tangle of hot, sweat-soaked bedding, we have the solution. These are the best cooling sheets for hot sleepers this year, so you can finally—finally!—keep cool and snooze on.

Linen Sheet Set

Synthetics definitely have their place for hot sleepers looking for cooling sheets, but all-natural, organic alternatives like linen seriously deliver, too. If you haven't yet hopped on the linen bedding train, Parachute, one of our favorite online bedding stores, is the place to start. That's especially true when you're looking for sheets that'll keep you cool and look just as good as they feel. The brand's top-rated linen sheets are made in Portugal from some of the finest European flax linen. That fact alone is why they've become a best seller. Trust us: These will not disappoint.

Our testers unanimously loved these sheets. They’re buttery soft straight out of the packaging, and we found that they only get softer with each wash. The all-natural fiber (no synthetics here) was especially loved by our allergy sufferers. We also loved that they're available in about a dozen colors, including the new Raisin and Slate Blue, to beautifully match any décor

On the downside, this set doesn't include a flat sheet. It’s a strange oversight and one that requires you to spend around $100 more if you want one. Still, at roughly $200 (depending on your choice of colorway), they're right in the midrange of sheets in our roundup. With a decent price, premium construction, handsome aesthetic, and, most importantly, excellent cooling capability, they're easily our pick for the best cooling sheets overall in 2023.

Classic Core Sheet Set

If you're in the market for a smoother set of sheets, consider Brooklinen's Classic Percale Core Sheets. Like Parachute’s linen cooling sheets, these are made with a 100% all-natural construction, too. In this case, it’s long-staple cotton with a breathable 270-thread count weave, so they're perfect for the hot sleepers.

These cooling sheets were a hit with our entire test panel. One editor noted, “They feel super-sleek and luxurious like high-end hotel sheets.” One nice touch: They're tagged with "long" and "short" side labels, which means making the bed is so, so much easier. It sounds simple, but it’s something that anyone who hates making their bed will appreciate. We also dig that they're OEKO-TEX certified for chemical safety, meaning no unnecessary or harmful flame retardants or other nastiness is used in the manufacturing process.

Unfortunately, like most of Brooklinen's bedding, these are only available in a handful of neutral colors and a few limited edition colors. But, that minor quibble aside, these hotel-grade sheets are all but guaranteed to have you sleeping at a luxury level. Bonus: At around $180 (less on one of Brooklinen’s frequent sales) for a complete, four-piece Queen set (one fitted sheet, one flat sheet, and two standard pillowcases), they're pretty reasonably priced too.

Hyperlite Sheet Set

As part of Casper's bedding collection—which, incidentally, counts a number of Men's Health editors as fans—the brand's Hyperlite Sheets are sure to keep your A/C usage on the low side. Forget kicking off the sheets and duvet when it's too hot; you'll be too busy slumbering in bliss. They're billed as Casper's "coolest sheets yet," which isn't surprising considering the 100% Tencel Lyocell construction and ultra-breathable grid weave. Just add one of Casper's best-selling mattresses to elevate your whole bedroom experience.

We’re not going to lie: We love Casper bedding. Not surprisingly, its Hyperlite Cooling Sheets are no exception. Our hottest sleepers appreciated the featherweight construction. “I sleep crazy hot and love my linen sheets, but these feel like they’re half the weight!” said one of our staff writers. We unanimously agreed that the 100% Tencel Lyocell construction was not only lightweight but extremely soft and smooth, too.

The only real downside is the lack of available colors—there are only five muted, neutral options. But the price seriously can't be beat. At around $250 (with free shipping and free returns), the five-piece set includes not only one fitted and one flat sheet with two pillowcases, but a matching duvet cover too. It's premium bedding without the premium price tag.

SoftStretch Sheets

As the name implies, the bamboo blend of Purple’s SoftStretch Sheets is soft and stretchy like your favorite well-worn T-shirt. But, even more importantly, it’s breathable and moisture-wicking, too, making these the perfect cooling sheets for hot sleepers. Like Purple’s beloved mattresses, these sheets are also extremely durable. With deep pockets and plenty of “give,” they easily adapt to fit your mattress perfectly, which also takes the headache out of making the bed.

We first came across these cooling sheets at the Topping Rose Hotel in Bridgehampton, York, and were immediately hooked. Nothing else feels quite like them, and after one night in, our hottest test panelists found them to be extremely cooling. Moreover, we weren’t expecting just how much of a difference the ultra-stretch fabric would make in making our beds. It might seem like a small feature, but again, it’s game-changing if you hate having to wrestle fresh, clean sheets onto your mattress before climbing in at night.

Our one minor gripe is that they’re only available in a half-dozen colorways—considerably fewer than some of the best cooling sheets we tested this year. But, at around $190 (for a full, four-piece Queen set), they’re reasonably priced right in the mid-range of their competitors. Bonus for Purple mattress owners: These cooling sheets are purpose-built to pair well with the company’s GelFlex Grid tech to maximize the way your bedding hugs and supports your body.

Original Performance Sheet Set

We’re big fans of all-natural and organic bedding (and almost everything else, really). But the right synthetics can almost always outperform. If you’re a hot sleeper looking for a set of moisture-wicking performance sheets (and pillowcases) to seriously keep you cool at night, Sheex delivers. These have a near-perfect 4.4+ rating based on over 3,000 glowing Amazon reviews. If you're looking for some of the best cooling sheets, these are it. That's thanks to a blend of polyester and spandex for maximum breathability, moisture-wicking, and softness. Plus, they get softer with each wash and are naturally resistant to wrinkling, pilling, and fading.

Our panelists were surprised at how premium the fabric of this sheet set feels. It’s clear that these are a cut above most of the cooling sheet alternatives we tested, and that alone justified the $200-plus price tag. We found the proprietary synthetic blend fabric to cool better than almost every other natural sheet set we tested. The performance polyester kept our hottest panelists cool, calm, and collected throughout the night, while the dash of spandex in the construction allowed them to give a little as we tossed and turned. That added stretch also made making the bed much, much easier.

We also like the roughly ten available solid colors, so you can easily find a look that complements your bedroom décor. On the downside, a complete Queen set will set you back over $230. Still, given the premium construction, glowing reviews, and performance cooling capabilities, we think they're worth it, especially if you sleep very, very hot.

Bamboo Bed Sheets

Bamboo bedding is all the rage right now and with good reason. It’s not surprising, given that it’s soft, durable, and more sustainable than most other natural sheets. It’s also naturally cooling. Case in point: Layla’s Bamboo Sheets, that'll leave you three degrees cooler than its cotton counterparts all night, every night. It also boasts twice the thread count of cotton, so it's noticeably softer. What's more, bamboo cooling sheets are naturally moisture-wicking and odor-resistant too. So, you'll never worry about clammy, stinky sheets that feel like they need a wash every other day.

Our sleep test panelists loved how sleek and soft these cooling sheets felt, especially on these recent, record-hot summer nights here in the U.S. They didn’t perform quite as well as the best synthetic alternatives we tested. The self-proclaimed hottest-sleeping testers among us gave that award to the Sheex cooling sheets. But, among natural cooling sheets, in general, and bamboo cooling sheets, in particular, these were a win for us—especially for the price, which is almost half of the competition's.

What we love even more about bamboo is that it uses up to 20 times less water to manufacture, so it's easier on the environment. At just over $100 (for a Queen set), these are easy on the wallet too. For hot sleepers who are budget- and eco-conscious, be sure to consider these. They’re easily this year’s best bamboo cooling sheets. Plus, Amazon's free return policy on this cooling sheet set is basically like a free in-home trial.

The Regulator Sheet Set

Temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking, and silky-smooth—these durable cooling sheets have it all. My Sheets Rock's 100% bamboo performance sheets are designed to work with your body. That means whether you sleep on the hot or cold side, you won't have to worry about getting too much of one or the other. They’re purpose-built to keep your sleep temp even throughout the night.

Our team found the smooth, silky skin feel of The Regulator set to be the closest to sateen of any cooling sheets for hot sleepers we tested this year. The bamboo rayon construction is extremely durable with a medium weight that worked for us on both hot summer nights in August and the recent cooler fall-ish nights here in the U.S. We liked the roughly ten available colors, too—simple, solid, and versatile enough to work with almost any bedroom decor.

The price truly sets these apart from other cooling sheets we tested this year. At around $150 for a four-piece Queen set (with a flat and a fitted sheet, plus two standard pillowcases), they’re surprisingly affordable. What’s more is that the construction feels more premium and upscale than most “budget-minded” sheet sets, making this a great bedding value for hot sleepers, as well.

True Temp Sheet Set

Leave it to Sleep Number to create a set of tech-driven sheets that'll keep hot sleepers cool, even on the toastiest nights. The brand's best-rated cooling sheets were made to move with you and feature a SmartFit design, which means making your bed in the morning is easier than ever. All of these best-selling features are thanks to the infusion of 37.5 Technology—the same tech that’s used in high-end active and athleisure wear that’s designed to regulate temperature and wick away moisture to keep you cool, calm, and collected all night long.

In our tests, we found Sleep Number’s True Temp Sheets outperformed almost every other cooling sheet set this year. We’ve tested bedding and other products with built-in 37.5 Technology before, and it’s the real deal. It traps and dissipates heat better than synthetic materials alone, and we also loved how it keeps us dry, too. As part of our sleep test, on some of the hottest summer nights this year, we were able to sleep without AC, and remain reasonably comfortable and dry. By adding a cooling mattress and pillow, we found a nearly perfect “keep cool” sleep set.

Unfortunately, these premium cooling sheets are only available in Queen sizes and larger, so Twin and Full mattress owners are out of luck. These are also among the priciest cooling sheets we tested as well with a price tag north of $200 for the smallest set. Still, if you run seriously hot at night, and want the most technical cooling sheets on the market, we think these are worth the splurge.

How to Shop for the Best Cooling Sheets for Hot Sleepers

Finding the right sheets for you is just like finding the right mattress, the right pillow, the right comforter—you get the gist. It's all about good fabrics and clever designs. Here are the most important things to consider when shopping for the best cooling sheets if you tend to sleep hot.

Fabrics

The main thing to consider as you outfit your bed is what the best material for cooling sheets will be for you. Natural and synthetic fibers each have their pros and cons.

Cotton, bamboo, or flax can help regulate your body temperature as you sleep (and just in case you need some moisture-wicking action while you snooze, we found some that'll do the trick). Depending on your preferences, you may like the textured feel of linen sheets, but if you're looking for a smooth or silky touch, opt for bamboo or percale. Synthetic blends (including those made with polyester, rayon, spandex, or some combination of all three) are another solid bet. Some of the best performance cooling sheets we tested this year are made with a synthetic blend.

Moisture-wicking

"Moisture-wicking" means the ability of a fabric or textile to draw away moisture (usually sweat) to give you a drier, non-clammy, between-the-sheets feel while you sleep. Some fabrics, like natural linen, bamboo, polyester, and Tencel are excellent at wicking away moisture. These are often blended with other fabrics like cotton to make them softer and more durable.

Thread Count

Thread count is typically a good measure of the overall quality of a sheet. In general, the higher the thread count, the softer, more durable, and overall better the sheet usually is. Sometimes, however, a slightly lower thread count actually makes for the best cooling sheets. Just be sure not to go too low, as you don't want a cheap set that could disintegrate after the first few washes. Hot sleepers may want to target something in the 250-300 thread count range to help keep cool in bed.

Price

Like every home design product, bedding prices vary widely. We've found decent cooling sheet sets for under $50, while a set of the very best cooling sheets typically run $200 or more. Just know that you don't have to spend a fortune to find a good set for your bedroom.

Which Sheets Are Best for Cooling Hot Sleepers?

“The best cooling sheets are made from breathable materials like cotton, linen, or viscose made from bamboo,” clinical psychologist David Rubin—who is also a diplomate of the American Board of Sleep Medicine, a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and a product expert at The Sleep Doctor—tells Men’s Health.

“From there, pay attention to the weave. Percale sheets feel cooler and crisp because of their weave with long-staple cotton. In fact, those cool and crisp hotel sheets we all love tend to be percale, so if you want to replicate that feeling, it's the right choice.”

Purple's Senior Director of Merchandising, Kristen Olson-Turner, agrees. “A bamboo blend tends to be the best type of sheet to keep you cool,” she adds. “Bamboo is naturally moisture-wicking and offers many benefits for hot sleepers. Bamboo sheets pull sweat away from your body so it can evaporate. That means the sheets won’t trap your own body heat and force you to sleep in a cocoon of your own sweat.”

Polyester, silk, and Tencel are also other popular materials that will get the job done. All in all, you can’t go wrong with any of our expert-approved and highly-rated picks above. At the same time, remember that flannel, fleece, and microfiber are the main fabrics to stay away from.

Do Cooling Sheets Work for Hot Sleepers?

Cooling sheets can certainly make a difference, especially if you tend to sleep hot. Gone are the nights of waking up in pools of sweat or you and your partner perspiring and lying there wide awake. However, keep in mind that just because your bed is fresher with high-tech "performance" sheets, it’s still recommended that you wash your sheets every two weeks as dead skin, dust mites, bacteria, and everything in between can still build up.
