Iman Vellani on Her Surprise Marvels Scene With [Spoiler], Plus Ms. Marvel Season 2 Hopes

The following contains surprise cameo spoilers from the motion picture The Marvels, now in theaters.

Make no mistake, Iman Vellani enjoyed her “Nick Fury moment” at the end of The Marvels as much as you did (if not more).

Oh, and Kamala almost recruited a different young hero instead.

Before the closing credits started rolling on the latest MCU film, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel showed up in the New York apartment of one Kate Bishop (Hawkeye‘s Hailee Steinfeld) — sporting a baseball cap, emerging from the shadows and inviting Clint Barton’s apprentice to be a part of something bigger, by joining her nascent team of young heroes. And it sounded like Kamala’s next stop might be San Francisco, to see if “Ant-Man’s daughter” Cassie Lang, who suited up in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, is interested as well.

“There was a version of this [recruitment scene] in an old script, but we never shot it,” Vellani shared with our sister site THR.com. “And then there were rumors that we were going to get to it in additional photography, but with a different young Avenger.”

But once Vellani had the script for the additional shoot in hand, “I flipped out,” she said. And to best evoke Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury recruiting Tony Stark all those years ago, “I immediately rewatched Iron Man and texted [The Marvels director] Nia [DaCosta] in all caps. I was like, ‘I cannot believe the honor that I am getting right now. This is crazy!'”

What The Marvels’ Twists Mean for Kamala, Monica and That Other Hero

Many reviews of The Marvels (including TVLine’s) suggested that Vellani stole the movie, which teamed a geeked-out Kamala up with no less than her idol, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), as well as Carol’s niece Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris).

Might that groundswell of love for the Jersey City teen pave the way for Ms. Marvel‘s small-screen encore? (Season 1 streamed June/July of 2022.)

“Honestly, I hope all the love that Kamala is getting from this movie inspires people to be more vocal about wanting a Season 2” of the Disney+ series, Vellani told THR. “I would absolutely love to continue this story, and Kamala and her entire community has so much story left to tell. I want to see Bruno (played by Matt Lintz) again. I want to see Nakia (Yasmeen Fletcher) again, and that’s just me. So it would be really amazing to have a Season 2.”
