Based on what I'm seeing at the Met Gala, I'm calling it now: Trendy taupe is about to be everywhere, from the home to the hair salon to the next wedding you attend.

Tonight, the annual fundraiser event took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion as the theme. Since the dress code is “The Garden of Time,” one might have expected to see loads of greenery and florals. But I was none too surprised to see countless—I repeat, countless—celebrities in neutral-colored outfits.

I’m not the only one who thinks taupe will be the color of the season. In an interview with Glamour, hair stylist and trend forecaster Tom Smith predicted that "taupe brunette" will be 2024’s biggest color trend. “This year will hero brown and brunette shades in the same way 2023 did for coppers,” he said. “With monochrome dressing in fashion at an all time high, and tonal browns as popular now as they were in the early ‘00s.”

Even fashion bloggers are pointing out that the color is blowing up right now. If you want to try it for yourself, there are several taupe-colored options available online, including the Petal & Pup Liza Pleated Maxi Dress ($89) and the Birdy Grey Kensie Dress ($99)—both of which are ideal for bridesmaids and wedding guests.
