Idris Elba announced for brand new TV project
Idris Elba has landed a new TV project with National Geographic.
The Luther and Hijack actor will narrate a four-part documentary that brings to light untold stories from World War II, titled Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Colour.
Elba, whose company 22Summers is executive producer on the series, has a personal connection to the documentary, as his grandfather fought in World War II.
The documentary will premiere on National Geographic on Monday, May 27 at 8pm.
The series highlights the efforts of soldiers of colour and "sheds light on the immense contributions of over eight million individuals who fought heroically for the Allied forces and whose stories have largely gone untold".
Erased will use historical dramatisations and archive footage and will showcase the personal narratives of the soldiers through oral testimonies, journal writings and accounts from their descendants.
Each episode will look at a different point of the war, focusing on at least three heroes each time.
‘Pearl Harbour’ will tell the story of three Black sailors who not only survived the attack but saved countless lives as well. ‘D-Day’ will focus on a group of American soldiers who were the only all-Black combat unit to fight on the D-Day beaches.

Meanwhile, ‘Dunkirk’ highlights an Indian regiment of mule handlers who were pivotal in evacuating Allied forces from France. And ‘Battle of the Bulge’ tells the story of elite tank battalion the Black Panthers.
Elba, who is currently voicing the title role in Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off series Knuckles, recently revealed that we might see his infamous detective character John Luther on screen again.
The BBC series was adapted into a feature film for Netflix last year, and the actor has teased that a sequel might be in the works.
"The chances are good," he said. "The chances are very good actually. I don’t want to make any exclusive announcements, but it’s looking good for old Johnny Boy."
Erased: WW2’s Heroes of Colour will air on National Geographic on Monday, May 27 at 8pm.
