Identities revealed for 3 teen students killed in Columbia SC shooting

The Facebook message from Eau Claire High School Sunday evening was simple: “Please keep the Shamrock family in your prayers.”

Three more students had been killed by gunfire in the Lincolnshire Neighborhood in Northeast Columbia..

The Richland County Coroner said they were Kobe Fanning, 16, Caleb Wise, 16, and Drevon Riley, 17, all of Columbia, SC.

Richland One Superintendent confirmed in a news release Monday all three were Eau Claire students.

They were killed Sunday afternoon in a shooting on Saddletrail Road in Columbia. One other person involved was treated for gunshot wounds and released.

Richland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. An arrest was made Monday.

In 2022, two others died in separate shootings: Sha’Neal Brown and Bertrand “Troy” Ganaway.

In his release Monday, Witherspoon said, “The Richland One family is grieving the loss of three young lives to senseless gun violence.”

The school’s crisis team is on campus and security has been heightened.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy, and we ask everyone to keep the students’ families and the students and staff at Eau Claire High School in your thoughts and prayers,” he said.

Cody Alcorn, former anchor for Fox Carolina in Greenville who now works for Atlanta station WXIA, posted a video on Facebook from a viewer in which four gunshots can be heard. It was time stamped 2:05, which is about the time the 911 call was made.

Rep. Kambrell Garvin posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, calling the shootings another senseless tragedy.

“We must continue to address the gun violence epidemic that has plagued our community with actionable steps to combat these far too frequent occurrences,” he said.

Richland County Council member Getchen Barron said in a news release, “It seems like day after day the capital county is experiencing an uptick in gun violence.”

She called for “courageous conversation” among community leaders and announced she would release a plan to combat the problem of gun violence.

“I will not sit by and watch our young people continue to be killed,” she said.

More than 100 people commented on Eau Claire’s Facebook post, including one who said, “Heart broken and praying for all involved and affected.”

Another said, “Once a shamrock always is shamrock we ride together we die together shamrock for life EC all the way.”
