Iconic rock band’s 2023 tour will include a concert in Columbia
Classic rock legend Chicago is coming to Columbia for a concert, promoters said Monday.
Members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band will bring their 2023 tour to the Township Auditorium on Sept. 29.
Tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday at the box office and online. Select presales will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. at ticketmaster.com.
Ticket prices range from $62.50 to $99.50, according to the Township Auditorium’s website.
The Columbia show is Chicago’s only scheduled tour stop in South Carolina, and is sandwiched between performances in Durham, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia in a three-day span.
Chicago formed in 1967 and has recorded 38 albums, selling more than 100 million records, according to the band’s website.
The Grammy-winning group known for hits such as “Saturday in the Park,” “If You Leave Me Now,” “25 or 6 to 4,” and “You’re the Inspiration,” among others, has had 20 songs reach the top 10 of the Billboard pop chart, according to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The band was originally known as the Chicago Transit Authority, and its songs often combine elements of classical music, jazz, R&B, and pop music with a trumpet, flugelhorn, trombone, and saxophone joining traditional rock instruments guitars, bass, as well as drums and percussion.
The band’s lineup has changed over the years, but founding members Robert Lamm (keyboards and vocals), Lee Loughnane (trumpet and flugelhorn), and James Pankow (trombone) are still members of the group that’s also been known for including Peter Cetera and Terry Kath among others.
