Siggi's, the Icelandic style skry yogurt brand, is launching a new program to encourage people to put down their phones. It doesn’t hurt that the incentive is a $10,000 prize.

In light of reports of the dangerous mental health effects of social media and too much screen time, the brand's Digital Detox Program encourages participants to forgo their smartphones for 30 days.

“Our brand ethos is all about stripping away the unnecessary, and just like fewer ingredients in yogurt we believe fewer digital distractions can make for a more satisfying life,” says Kristina Drociak, the director of PR and digital strategy at Siggi’s. “The goal of the program is to show people the benefits of going digital-free in hopes that this can start new healthy habits in 2024 and beyond.”

In a similar move, GymBird, last year, listed a position for a "chief steps officer," which paid $10,000 for the "employee" to walk 10,000 steps each day for a month. In 2022, Field Trip Health, a psychedelic-enhanced therapy company, offered free services to people had recently been laid off.

As for Siggi's, to participate in their health and wellness offering, those interested must apply on their website before January 31st with a statement about why you want to partake in a digital detox. Ten winners will be announced by the first week of February and will receive $10,000 each, a lock box for their smartphone, a flip phone in exchange, a one-month prepaid sim card, and, of course, some Siggi's yogurt to last the screen-less time.
