Ice storm closes roads in Tacoma. Here’s where they are and what will be plowed first
A dozen streets are closed in Tacoma on Friday morning due to the ice storm.
The city’s Public Works Department street operations division has deployed 12 snowplows throughout Tacoma.
Roads closed due to weather are:
South Baker Street from Fawcett Avenue to St. Helens Avenue
Division Avenue from North Tacoma Avenue to St. Helens Avenue
South 4th Street from Fawcett Avenue to South Stadium Way
33rd Street Northeast – both ends of Browns Point Boulevard Northeast
McMurray Road Northeast from Marine View Drive to Browns Point Boulevard Northeast
East Fairbanks Street from Portland Avenue East to East M Street
East Browning Street from East Grandview Avenue to Pioneer Way East
East Valley View Terrace from East McKinley Road to East L Street
33rd Street Northeast at 44th Ave Northeast to Browns Point Blvd Northeast
South 64th Street from South Sheridan Avenue to South M Street
Shorecliff Drive Northeast - both ends of Browns Point Boulevard Northeast
South 64th Street from Tacoma Mall Boulevard to Tacoma Baptist School
South 30th Street from Pacific Avenue to South D Street
North Carr Street from North Yakima Avenue to North Tacoma Avenue
East Fairbanks Street from East T Street to East Roosevelt Avenue
South 23rd Street from South J Street to South G Street
South 76th Street between South Alaska to South Asotin Street
Crews pre-treated all snow routes and will continue to patrol during the winter storm. City crews plow and de-ice streets on a priority level, beginning with primary arterial streets, followed by secondary and auxiliary routes. Crews are not able to remove snow from residential streets.
Ice can bring down trees and power/communication lines making travel hazardous for motorists and pedestrians. The city recommends staying home or delaying commuting until the ice melts.
Pierce Transit reported all routes would be suspended until 10 a.m. Morning service for routes 497 and 63 are canceled.
A winter storm warning was in effect until 7 p.m. for much of the region, including Tacoma and Olympia, with the National Weather Service office in Seattle calling for “heavy mixed precipitation, including freezing rain.
