Ice, freezing rain cause city hall closures and late openings throughout the Ozarks

Cold weather and freezing rain have caused shutdowns or delays in much of the area today.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory through 3 p.m. Monday noting the possibility of up to 1/4-inch of freezing rain. In counties to the east and southeast of Springfield, an ice storm warning is in effect during the same time period. Freezing rain is expected to continue mostly in the Eastern Ozarks.

For most of the morning, Missouri Department of Transportation reported the majority of roads in and around Springfield are covered with snow or ice. As of 1:45 p.m., most roads were either mostly clear or partly covered.

About 650 people in the Phelps neighborhood and the northern part of University Heights lost power around 9 a.m. this morning when a tree fell on a power line, according to City Utilities' outage map. As of 11:40 a.m., power has been restored after City Utilities repaired the downed power line. Additional outages continued throughout the day.

The weather is affecting multiple government offices, including Greene County offices and 31st Circuit judicial courts, which will remain closed today. Christian County offices and buildings will be closed. The Webster County courthouse is closed Monday, as well.

Republic Services will not be running trash and recycling routes on Monday in and around Springfield, Branson and Lebanon. Customers can call 800-627-1717 or visit republicservices.com to confirm their collection schedule.

Area schools have also been affected by the weather.
