Hyannis man has died from injuries after Sunday morning crash on Sagamore Bridge

HYANNIS — A Cape Cod man who was injured in a two-vehicle crash on the Sagamore Bridge in Bourne Sunday has died.

Eric Michael Stanley of Hyannis died at Cape Cod Hospital on Monday.

Bourne Fire Department Assistant Chief David Pelonzi said crews responded to the crash at 6:42 a.m. The crash closed the bridge temporarily. Stanley was brought to Falmouth Hospital, according to Pelonzi. The other patient refused transport, he said.

Stanley’s father, Dean Stanley, who owns Dean F. Stanley Building Contractor Inc. spoke briefly on Friday with the Times about his son.

“It’s an awful, terrible time for us,” Stanley said.

Dean Stanley wrote the obituary that praised his son’s dedication to his wife and four children, his extended family, and his community. A professional carpenter and builder, youth sports volunteer, and car enthusiast, Eric Stanley, 40, was gentle, generous and thoughtful, according to his father. Eric Stanley devoted 18 years to his AA family, the obituary read. His big, black work truck was his pride and joy, his father said.

“The obituary says everything,” Dean Stanley said.

When he was asked on Friday about his son's work truck, Dean Stanley said, “I'm looking at it right now. A Ford F-150. It had every chrome thing on it, and it was just his baby.”
