Husband of woman caught on video pointing gun at black family loses job after arrest

Oakland University has fired the Michigan man whose wife was caught on video pointing a gun at a black woman and her teenage daughter following a wild shouting match outside a fast-food restaurant this week.

Eric Wuestenberg — who briefly engaged in the expletive-filled argument and was also armed — was the coordinator of the school’s veterans support services before being arrested and fired Thursday, a day after footage of the incident went viral on social media.

“We have seen the video and we deem his behavior unacceptable,” a university representative said in a statement to the Daily News. “The employee has been notified that his employment has been terminated by the university.”

Eric and Jillian Wuestenberg, both of whom are white, were repeatedly accused of racism after she allegedly bumped into a 15-year-old girl Wednesday outside a Chipotle Mexican Grill in Orion Township, about 40 miles north of Detroit.

Takelia Hill told news outlets that her daughter demanded an apology, but the 32-year-old suspect became aggressive and started cursing them out. The argument escalated into a nasty confrontation, with Hill and her daughter calling Jillian Wuestenberg “ignorant” and “racist,” according to a since-deleted clip shared by a Twitter user who identified herself as the teen’s aunt and a longer video obtained by The Detroit News.

The footage shows Eric Wuestenberg, 42, helping his wife get into an SUV as the teen and her mom appeared to be in their way while shouting at them. After she finally got into the car and sat on the passenger’s seat, the woman tried to defend herself from the accusations.

“You cannot just walk around calling white people racist,” she was heard saying. “White people aren’t racist. No one’s racist.”

Moments later, the man almost struck Hill with the car while trying to back out of a parking space, the mother told The Detroit News. Hill then hit the back of the car so he would stop, but the move angered Jillian Wuestenberg, who jumped out of the vehicle with a firearm in her hand.

“Get the f--k away from me,” the woman repeatedly shouted, while pointing the gun at the mom and daughter.

The stand-off continued for another minute, but the gun-wielding woman eventually got back into the car without firing any shots.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said the two families gave “two very different stories,” each claiming they felt “extremely threatened.” His office investigated the incident and determined the couple was at fault.

Eric Wuestenberg had worked at Oakland University since 2017, according to his LinkedIn page.
