Husband of model found unresponsive outside Los Angeles area hospital awaits potential new charges in her death

The family of Christy Giles said they can rest just a bit easier now that the coroner has officially declared the model’s death a homicide, though they still wait with bated breath for the potential announcement of new charges in the case.

Both 26-year-old Giles and her architect pal, Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, were found unresponsive outside of two different Los Angeles area hospitals following a night out back in November. On Friday, both of their deaths were officially declared homicides.

According to documents obtained by People, Giles had a fatal mix of cocaine, fentanyl, ketamine and gamma-hydroxybutyrate acid (GHB) — often referred to as the “date rape drug” — in her system when she died. Her cause of death was listed as “multiple drug intoxication,”

“I’m, firstly relieved that it was ruled a homicide, and that it’s more likely that the DA’s office is going to press charges,” her husband, Jan Cilliers told E! News, noting it was what he suspected “all along.”

Christy Giles, a 24-year-old model and aspiring actress, was found dead outside one hospital around 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021.

Despite taking some consolation in the new information, Cilliers said he also found it was “surprising” that drugs were involved in her cause of death.

“It’s not like she was a regular drug user, you know what I mean?” he said. “But those two things are very concerning. Because one is a date rape drug and the second one is something that has been killing a lot of people recently.”

Late the night of Nov. 13, Giles was dumped on the sidewalk outside Southern California Hospital in Culver City by three masked men in a black Toyota Prius without license plates, according to police. Just hours later, Cabrales-Arzola was similarly left at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in West Los Angeles a few miles away.

Giles was pronounced dead early the following morning while Cabrales-Arzola died on Nov. 24, days before her 27th birthday.

Her cause of death was listed as multiple organ failure and “multiple drug intoxication,” according to the report. She tested positive for cocaine and MDMA and other drugs that were undetermined.

Cilliers noted that he has not yet spoke with the district attorney regarding additional charges against those arrested in the case. Three people, David Pearce, 38, Brandt Osborn, 42, and Michael Ansbach, 47, are behind bars in connection with Giles and Cabrales-Arzola’s deaths.

Pearce was charged with manslaughter while Ansbach and Osborn were accused of being accessories to manslaughter.
