Husband of country singer Sara Evans arrested for allegedly trying to hit her with car
The husband of country singer Sara Evans allegedly tried to run down his wife after a party early Saturday morning.
Jay Barker, 49, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, placed on a 12-hour domestic violence hold and release on a $10,000 bail Saturday night, according to CBS 42.
Evans, the 50-year-old “Born to Fly” singer, was leaving the Nashville party and got into a friend’s passenger seat when she saw Barker “backing up his vehicle at a high rate of speed attempting to hit them but missed,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Barker allegedly fled the scene and was later arrested after Evans called the police.
The arrest affidavit lists the couple as “separated,” but no other details were made public.
Evans and Barker married in 2008 after being introduced by their minister a year earlier while both were going through separate divorces.
Evans released her latest album, “Copy That,” in May 2020 and a memoir in September of that year.
Barker led Alabama to the 1992 national championship and came in fifth in Heisman voting in 1994. He was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 1995 NFL draft and later played for the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers, but never appeared in a regular season game. He currently hosts a radio show on a Tuscaloosa, Ala., station.
