Hurricane Idalia will bring heavy rain to the Myrtle Beach area. Local flooding possible.

As Hurricane Idalia surges through the Gulf of Mexico en route to an expected Wednesday landfall, coastal areas of South Carolina could see flooding along with significant amounts of rain over the next several days.

Up to five inches of rain could soak the greater Myrtle Beach area through Friday morning, with the majority of precipitation coming Wednesday night, according to a National Weather Service forecast.

Tropical storm conditions will likely linger into Thursday, with scattered thunderstorms until mid-afternoon.

Idalia is projected to drop heavy rains across northern Florida and up the Carolina coasts, creating the potential for “locally significant” flash flooding.

Coastal areas from Jacksonville, Florida to Havelock, North Carolina are susceptible to major flooding rains through Friday.
