Hunter trapped overnight on ‘small confined ledge’ is saved, Washington rescuers say

A hunter was trapped on a cliffside overnight in the Olympic National Forest in Washington before he was saved, rescuers said.

The man was rescued on Sept. 18 after being stuck on a “small confined ledge” near Mount Constance, the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island said in a news release.

Ground crews with Jefferson County Search and Rescue couldn’t reach the man because of the dangerous conditions, so they contacted the naval air station, rescuers said.

The man was stuck on a ledge that had a 70-foot drop to the next cliff outcropping, rescuers said.

But rescuers from the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island were able to hoist the man from the ledge and into a helicopter.

He was suffering from severe dehydration and fatigue, and he was taken to a hospital.
