Hunter Schafer Taken Into Police Custody Over Pro-Palestine Protest Outside Biden’s ‘Late Night’ Appearance

“Euphoria” star Hunter Schafer was among 30 protesters taken into police custody for participating in a Pro-Palestine rally outside of President Joe Biden’s “Late Night With Seth Meyers” appearance in New York City on Monday.

When contacted about Schafer’s involvement, a NYPD spokesperson told Variety that “a total of 30 individuals were taken into custody” after a “demonstration at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.” Those 30 people were also issued summonses for trespass.

The 25-year-old actor was protesting with the organization Jewish Voice for Peace. Schafer was photographed wearing a “ceasefire now” shirt as she was escorted away by NYPD, referencing the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Representatives for Schafer did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.

In an Instagram post featuring Schafer, Jewish Voice for Peace stated the mission of the protest on Monday. “Biden’s deadly foreign policy has funded and fueled genocide in Gaza. 50 protesters were arrested by the NYPD and Secret Service,” the post reads. “The President needs to start listening to the American people – not the far-Right Israeli government indiscriminately bombing the people of Gaza, destroying 70% of infrastructure, including hospitals, universities and the electricity and water grids.”

Biden has been criticized for how he has handled the United States’ response to the conflict. Before appearing on “Late Night,” Biden and Meyers went out for ice cream, where the president said that he hopes a ceasefire will start “by the end of the weekend.”

“My National Security adviser tells me that we’re close. We’re not done yet,” he said. “My hope is by next Monday, we’ll have a ceasefire.”
