Consider this your invitation back to The Hunger Games. The wildly popular book-to-movie dystopian franchise spawns an epic origin story. In a new prequel film titled The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, fans trace the history of Coriolanus Snow before his tyrannical reign as the president of Panem.

Sixty-four years before Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) ever became "the girl on fire," a young, ambitious Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) is assigned to mentor the impoverished District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) for the 10th annual Hunger Games. The future President Snow eyes it as an opportunity to restore his affluent family to their former glory in a post-war Capitol.

Waging an internal war against good and evil, Snow sets out on a complicated relationship with Lucy that tells the tale of the songbird and the snake. Director of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2 Francis Lawrence continues the lineage based on the 2020 novel by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

Put your Mockingjay pins on. The Hunger Games prequel premiered exclusively in U.S. movie theaters and select IMAX theaters on November 17. And the earliest you can catch it on a digital platform will likely be with its at-home release, to rent or to buy.

While Lionsgate has yet to volunteer information on when it'll hit streamers, we can predict from past film release patterns that The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be available to stream sometime closer to May 2024 (about six months past its theatrical release). It's likely that the anticipated Hunger Games prequel will be released on Peacock as confirmed by Collider.

Odds are that it'll also be available to buy for $19.99 shortly after its theatrical release on Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and Google Play Movies. In the meantime, you can re-watch the original trilogy on Peacock before the fifth installment hits theaters. Not already signed up?
