Hundreds join in Brittany Mahomes’ complaint about late-night Fourth of July fireworks
Brittany Mahomes touched a nerve with a couple of tweets Saturday night that got hundreds of people joining in her complaint about people blowing off Fourth of July fireworks late into the night.
The wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tweeted as the mother of two young children.
But by Sunday, the floodgates had opened with scores of social media users agreeing with her and sounding off on how loud fireworks bother more than just babies.
“Gurl.....my rescue dogs are losing their minds,” one follower tweeted at her.
These are complaints heard every Independence Day, but it is unusual that someone as high profile as Mahomes joins the conversation.
Having kids apparently will do that.
“Fireworks at 11:30 p.m.?” she tweeted late Saturday.
She followed up with this tweet: “When ya got (babies) sleeping you really hate fireworks.”

The couple’s daughter, Sterling, is 2; son Bronze is 7 months old.
It was unclear whether Mahomes was tweeting from Kansas City. The family has been in both Hawaii and Las Vegas in recent days.
But it didn’t seem to matter given how many local people sympathized with her on Twitter and Facebook.
“I agree with her. Please be considerate of babies, pets, people with PTSD, and anyone who has to work the next day, and put those money wasters where the sun don’t shine.”
“I’m with her. I was so happy to hear thunder and the fireworks stop not only for my kids but also for my veteran husband.”
“My 1 year old is so cranky today because he is teething and his teeth where killing him last night and when he finally fell asleep fireworks woke him back up.”
“I agree, its dark way before 11:30. My neighborhood, 2am this morning. I figure at least three more nights of no sleep. Evidently those folks don’t work.”

We still had them going off at 1am in Topeka. I usually like watching them but the loud ones are annoying to me too.

4th of July started last week, it will continue till Sunday of next week

Fireworks are restricted in many areas across the metro, rules that folks ignore according to the complaints police hear every July 4. Ordinances vary greatly in the area. Most places allow them on the 4th of July weekend but only during specific times. Kansas City does not allow fireworks within its city limits.

They’re banned in my city but, sure doesn’t sound like it. My pups are shaking.

They have gone to 3:00 am a majority of times. I turn on all tvs fairly loud to drown out the sound. When I go to bed, I leave the TV on. All 3 dogs sleep in my room ---so it keeps down the anxiety.

I know. The streets have no code anymore. It’s shameful. I’m in a subdivision where every other household has 2 dogs and these people continue to shoot off fireworks until midnight and then stragglers until 2am. Who has a dog and shoots off fireworks?!

That’s early for my neighborhood…at my house, the little darlings are still scaring my giant chicken dog at 1 am. The little pops are okay, but I’ve never understood people’s obsession with those things that sound like a bomb going off. No pretties, just noise

While most people sympathized with Mahomes, some reminded her that the nuisance is temporary — maybe through next weekend given that the holiday falls on Tuesday, some warned her.
And one man on Facebook reminded Mahomes that someone in her own family is guilty of inciting a racket of celebratory booms in Kansas City. Darn those Super Bowl wins.
“Well her husband is part to blame for fireworks in late January-February in recent years,” he wrote.
