Hull toilets reopening delay blamed on the weather

The reopening of toilets in Hull City Centre has been delayed due to an "incredibly wet winter".

The toilets in Queen Victoria Square have been closed since the end of 2023 after water leaked into the electrics.

Hull City Council said it hopes to reopen them by the end of May if there is a long enough period of dry, warm weather.

The authority said the wet winter had delayed repair work.

The toilets were previously closed in 2022 after rain leaked into its electrics.

They reopened in Spring 2023 but water then found its way back into the toilets' electrical system, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

A spokesperson for Hull City Council said: "The incredibly wet winter we have experienced has meant repair work has been delayed.

"Contractors have been secured but five to 10 days of dry weather above 10 degrees is required to complete the work."

The toilets in Queen Victoria Square were first installed below the statue in 1925, and restored in 1989.
