The Houston Texans could potentially make a huge splash in the coming weeks at the wide receiver position.

According to Tim Kawakami of The Athletic, there’s chatter around the league that Houston is interested in San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

“I don’t know if 49ers and HOU have had talks or if that would be Deebo’s 1st choice,” Kawakami tweeted. “But there’s chatter that HOU is interested.”

Samuel, a former second-round pick, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. It was officially announced on Wednesday that he has requested a trade.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the main issue for Samuel is that he’s not pleased with his role in San Francisco’s offense.

This past season, Samuel had 59 carries for 365 yards and eight touchdowns. Although he’s productive as a running back, the reality is he’s taking extra hits per game.

The 49ers have reportedly tried to negotiate a long-term deal with Samuel, but those talks haven’t materialized up to this point.

If the 49ers are willing to move on from Samuel, there’ll be plenty of teams interested in him. The Texans may just try to pair him with speedster Brandin Cooks.
